Perennial, cool, native, fair grazing for wildlife, good grazing value for livestock. 1-2' tall, growing from gray, slender, creeping rootstock. Blue-green stems and leaves. Leaves straight, broad, rough, strongly nerved on the upper surface and rolls inward with maturity. Flat seed head usually awnless. Decreases with overgrazing. Now most abundant in moist bottomland.
